Clay Hamblen, an All-American
Defensive Back for the Georgetown Tigers, signed with KMG Sports this past
weekend. Hamblen from
Danville,
IN tallied 52 total tackles in his last season as a
Tiger, including 28 solo, and had a total of eight interceptions for 78
yards, when most teams tried to avoid his side of the field. Hamblen added
a fumble recovery for 90 yards, had eight defended passes, and 2.5 tackles
for a loss of five yards in 2007. Just as impressively, he added 870 all
purpose yards on 24 kick returns and 19 punt returns, returning one kickoff
85 yards for a touchdown.
He ends his collegiate career with a total of 191 tackles, 30 broken up
passes, and 20 interceptions for 246 yards. On special teams, he was
special, with 2881 total all purpose yards during his four years at
Georgetown, adding 6 career touchdowns. In 2006 he was
named the NAIA All-Purpose Player of the Year and was also an AFCA
All-American.
Hamblen has left his mark in the
Georgetown
College record books, holding records in career
interceptions (20), punt returns (119), kickoff return yards (1691) and punt
return yards (1305). "He has been a special player to watch and coach,"
said Head Coach Bill Cronin. "We will certainly miss his speed and
leadership on the field."
