DALE O. BITTING, 86, of Bradenton, Florida, died Sunday morning, May 18, 2008 at his home.

He was born January 19, 1922 in Noble County, Indiana a son of Benjamin F. and Mabel Ruth (Ott) Bitting. His formative years were spent in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1940.

On September 22, 1942 he was inducted into the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged February 16, 1946.

On September 18, 1971 he was united in marriage to Donna M. (Yentes) Judy. They made their first home south of Columbia City. In October 1977 they moved to their home at Bayshore Windmill Village in Bradenton, Florida.

With a total of 31 years of banking service, he was employed at Citizens National Bank in Columbia City and began his employment at NCNB North Bank of Florida in Bradenton in March 1978, retiring in March 1988.

He was a member of Bayshore Covenant Church, a former 28 year member of Columbia City Kiwanis Club and a former member of Columbia City American Legion Post #98. An avid shuffleboard player, he competed in numerous tournaments.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Donna M. Bitting; two daughters, Roxanne (William) Thomas of Columbia City and Brenda (Craig) Schrader of Coldwater, Michigan; a step daughter, Denise (Richard) Butler of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Gradeless of Columbia City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Bitting.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. David Easterday officiating. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
