LEWIS E. GREGG, 84, a lifelong resident of Columbia City, died at 8:00 a.m., Sunday, April 16, 2006 at Miller's Merry Manor where he had been a resident since February 15, 2006.

He was born April 15, 1922 in Columbia City, Indiana a son of H. Randall and Wanda O. (Riddle) Gregg. He graduated from Columbia City High School and completed his education at Purdue University.

During World War II, he served in the United State Navy Air Corp. He was honorably discharged December 16, 1945.

On June 5, 1943 he was united in marriage to Lois M. Keirn. They have always made their home in Columbia City, moving to their present home in February 1962.

He was employed 30 years at LML Engineering, a few years at Simmons Equipment Sales and retired in 1990 from Trier Ford Lincoln Mercury with 10 years of service.

His memberships include Grace Lutheran Church where he served as church treasurer from 1984 until 2004 and also served on the finance committee. He was also active in the men's prayer breakfast.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Lois; a daughter, Jane (Richard) Bentz of Kendallville; a son, Jeffrey (Diana) Gregg of Crown Point; four grandchildren, Lindsay Bentz, Joshua Bentz, Anne Gregg and Aidan Gregg; a brother, Gordon W. Gregg of Decatur; and a sister, Carole Binkley of Columbia City.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James R. Gregg.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Grace Lutheran Church, 204 North Main Street, Columbia City with Rev. Dr. C. James Cress, church pastor, officiating. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

The burial will take place at a later date at South Park Annex Cemetery.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
