Vera L. Ramsey, age 86, who recently had moved to live with her son in Colorado, passed away at 9:11 p.m. on Monday, December 8, 2008 at her home. She was born on March 24, 1922 on the family farm in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County to Frank and Desta (Ummel) Kneller.

A 1940 graduate of Columbia City High School, she married Marion E. Ramsey on August 21, 1942 in South Whitley, IN. Other than living in Tacoma, WA for nine months during World War II and her recent move to Colorado, she lived her entire lifetime in Whitley County.

For 28 years, she was employed as a seamstress and garment inspector for Blue Bell, Columbia City. After retirement, she devoted much of her time to her hobbies of quilting and gardening. During her life, she completed seventy-seven quilts many of which were given to family members. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Columbia City.

Survivors include her son, Steve (Beth) Ramsey of Estes Park, CO; sister, Hazel Rathbun of Columbia City; 4 grandchildren, Kimberly (Sean) Davis of Vancouver, WA, Christopher (Shelly) Ramsey of Carmel, IN, Kathleen (Toby) Dogwiler of Dakota, MN, and Jonathan (Robyn) Ramsey of Indian Hills, CO; 6 great-grandchildren, Hannah and Lauren Davis, Madison and Seth Ramsey, Nyah Dogwiler and Annikah Ramsey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion, son, Roger Ramsey, parents, two infant twin brothers, and a sister, Florence Kneller.

Visitation is from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2008 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home with the Reverend Judith Follis of Hope Lutheran Church officiating.

Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Ramsey to the National Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of Estes Valley. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
