Family incorrectly indexed as "Dunns" in 1940 census for Columbia, Whitley County, Indiana. He was listed as Charles W. Dunns age 16 (born c1924); high school student. Brother Max W. Dunns age 9 (born c1931). Head of household was their mother, L. Marie Dunns age 39, widowed. In 1935 the family lived in rural Sevier County, Arkansas, but in 1930 they were living in Thorncreek Twp, Whitley County, Indiana.
Allen County, Indiana Marriage License: Charles William Dunn born June 21, 1923 in Columbia City, Indiana; parents Landy Wilson & Marie (Harshbarger) Dunn. He was an apprentice embalmer living in Indianapolis, Indiana. On December 6, 1947 he married Crylstal Lorraine Hawkins born December 31, 1914 in Grant County, Indiana.
Wife's obituary: Crystal L. (Hawkins) Dunn, passed away Friday, May 30, 2008 at her home in Fort Wayne [Indiana]. Born in Grant County, she taught in high school English and mathematics for 30 years and retired from Whitco Community Schools.
She was a charter member of Westview Alliance Church, taught Sunday School and was involved in the Women's Missionary Organization. She graduated from Taylor University and attended Ball State, University of Colorado and Case Institute of Technology.
Survivors include husband, C. William Dunn of Fort Wayne; daughters, Miriam (Malcom) Rose of Fort Wayne, and Marcia (Clarence) Walker of Toccoa, GA; grandchildren, Debra Walker of Gabon, Africa, Stan (Jaynee) Walker of Senegal, Africa, Lauralyn (Al) Stombaugh, Cynthia (Brannon) Hulsey, Stephanie (Herschel) Holloway all of Toccoa, GA, Dawn Rose of Fort Wayne, Amie (Joshua) Hollmann of Montreal Quebec, Canada, and David (Melissa) Rose of Fort Wayne; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Kayla, Alexis, London, and Elijah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Jennie (Blinn) Hawkins; and 5 sisters.
Service is 2 p.m. Tuesday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Memorials to Parkview Hospice.
