Notes:

Marcia Lee Daniel Levine, 90, passed away Jan. 28, 2017. Born Oct. 15, 1926 in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Lee and Sarah Lipman Daniel and grew up in Columbia City.

She graduated from Columbia City High School in 1944, attended Stephens College, Missouri, for two years and graduated from Northwestern University's famed School of Speech in 1948.

After graduation she worked in Chicago, New York and in 1953 when she married Maurice (Maury) Levine, she moved to La Porte, Ind. Together, they managed the family department stores Levine's Boston Stores and specialty shops The Village Scene and Joseph's Shoes.

Marcia, along with her husband, loved traveling the world and seeing theater, visiting six continents and seeing hundreds of plays in New York and Chicago. She was a voracious reader of both serious fiction and non-fiction, as well as a collector of 20th Century artists' work. Her weekly column on cooking and more "Shop Talk" in the La Porte Herald-Argus spawned the well-received compilation, Levine's Cooking Cards.

Marcia appeared in a number of plays at La Porte Little Theater Club during the 50s and 60s, as well as being active in the Ruth Coffeen Poetry Group in La Porte.

In later years, she was a resident of Naples, Fla., where she was a patron of Naples Council on World Affairs and Naples-Artis Baker Art Museum.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years; her son, Lee Daniel Levine; daughter, Joan Kay (Michael) Russell; and three grandchildren, Remy Daniel Russell, Emma Rose Russell and Isadore "Izzy" Daniel Levine.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Adele Daniel Gross; and daughter, Sandra Jane Levine.

She will be buried at B'ne Zion Cemetery in La Porte. A private memorial service will be held there at a later date.

Donation may be made in Marcia's name to a charity of the donor's choosing.
