Lois Mae Roby Nix, 89, a lifetime resident of Whitley County, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Renaissance Village where she had been a resident since October 2013. She was born April 9, 1926 in Columbia City, Indiana a daughter of Willie and Hazel (Leaman) Roby.

She graduated from Columbia City High School in 1944 and attended nursing school at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

In May 1946 she married Raymond Leo Nix at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church. Mr. Nix died in December 8, 1964.

Lois retired in May 1991 from food service with 23 years of service at Columbia City Joint High School.

Her memberships include St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church and St. Paul Sodality, Country Cousins Extension Homemakers Club, AARP and Silver Striders.

Surviving relatives include seven children, Melvin J. (Jeanine) Nix of Columbia City, Bonnie E. Anderson of Fort Wayne, Michael R. (Patricia) Nix of Churubusco, Mark L. Nix of Rockvale TN, Martin W. Nix of Goshen and Matthew J. (Nancy) Nix of South Whitley; and Brenda V. (David) Ruland of South Whitley; 11 grandchildren, Sonya Workman, Ryan Nix, Carla Mossburg, Kevin Nix, Aimee Nix, Lindsay Nix, Tara Hatton, Tiffany Chapman, Timmothy Nix, Ashley Ruland and Christin Ruland; and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Andrew James Nix and Jennifer Mae Nix; and two brothers, James Roby and Edgar B. Roby.

The funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 315 South Line Street, Columbia City with visitation one hour prior. The burial will be in St. Catherine Nix Settlement Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with a Prayer Service at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Preferred memorials are to Whitley County Council on Aging, Peabody Library or Whitley County Community Foundation.
