Gloria J. Cook, 82 of Columbia City, died at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Parkview Whitley Hospital. |
She was born July 5, 1927 in Columbia City Indiana a daughter of LeRoy and Helen (Denton) Gruesbeck. Her formative years were spent in Columbia City. She graduated from Columbia City High School with the class of 1945.
On September 21, 1946 she was united in marriage to Jack Allen Cook. They made their home in Columbia City. In 1985 they moved to their home at Lake Wawasee. Mr. Cook died May 20, 2000. After the passing of her husband, she moved back to Columbia City.
In addition to being a homemaker, she and her husband owned and operated Cook Lanes Bowling Alley and Ten Pin Restaurant and Lounge for 41 years. She was well known for her top bowling skills.
Her memberships included Columbia City United Methodist Church and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
She is survived by three sons, Randall A. Cook of North Webster, Ross (Becky) Cook of Columbia City, Ryan (Karen) Cook of Columbia City; a daughter, Reisa (John) Snyder of Winona Lake; 10 grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Larry Gruesbeck.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. C. Jack Scott officiating. The burial will be in South Park Cemetery, Columbia City. The visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
