Delmar "Del" Auer, 80, of rural Columbia City, died at 1:37 a.m. Monday, November 15, 2010 at Parkview Whitley Hospital.

He was born December 10, 1929 in Whitley County, Indiana, Indiana a son of John and Frances (Flaugher) Auer. His formative years were spent in Columbia City. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1948. He then completed his Associates Degree at International Business College, Fort Wayne.

He started his career at manager of the Sears Catalog Store and then as owner/manager of Auer Oil Company for 10 years. He then received his auctioneers and brokers license and started Auer & Davison Realtors which he ran for 20 years. He developed Brookwood Estates subdivision and Lincoln Hills subdivision. He completed his work career as a field Auditor with the Indiana Dept of Revenue and finally as manager of Indiana Dept of Transportation Warsaw sub-district.

In addition to his work career, he was an Indiana State Representative from 1974 to 1980 during which he served on Ways and Means Committee, Natural Resources and Public Safety among others. He served as a member of State Tax and Finance Policy Commission, past President of Whitley County Council, Whitley County Democratic Chairman. His was a past president of Jaycees and Whitley County Historical Society and former Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce.

His memberships included the Columbia City Church of the Nazarene, Past President of Whitley County Board of Realtors, Whitley County Red Cross and the Columbia City Rotary Club. He was the treasurer for Whitley County Association of Mentally Disable Children.

On June 24, 1966, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Hoover. She survives along with twin daughters, Lindy (James) Moule of New Hampshire and Cindy (Paul) Doolittle of Columbia City, daughter, Sheila (Donald) Jetmore, Columbia City, Richard Porter, Columbia City; grandchildren, Ryan (Cara) Hively, Indianapolis, Brant Hively, Scottsdale, AZ, Stacie (Jeffery) Farber, Columbia City, Cole Jetmore, Columbia City, Katie (William) Banford of Illinois; 5 step-grandchildren; great grandchildren, Grahm and Gavin Hively, Sydni and Jacob Farber and Andrew Jetmore Schoettner; brother, Thomas (Cathy) Auer, Columbia City, Jerry (Cindy) Auer, Larwill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Andrew Price Jetmore.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Columbia City Church of the Nazarene. The burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Preferred memorials may be made to Parkview Whitley Home Health and Hospice.
