Notes:

Richard R. Crampton, age 79, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 2010 at Miller's Merry Manor, Columbia City, IN. Born on July 15, 1931 in Bluffton, IN, he was the son of Walter B. and Vera B. (Andrew) Crampton.

He was raised in Whitley County, IN. He retired to Sarasota, FL, returning to Whitley County in 2008.

He graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1949 and Wabash College, Crawfordsville, IN. He earned a master's degree in Education from St. Francis University, Fort Wayne, IN. He served in the United States Marine Corps.

On July 3, 1954, he married Dorothy J. Bunting. He was a retired football coach and school teacher working in Columbia City, Churubusco, Illinois and Florida. He was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church and the Leatherneck Coffee Club.

Survivors include his daughter, Mary (Andrew) Kopacz of Sarasota, FL; son, Timothy Crampton of Sarasota, FL; brothers & sisters, Walter B. Crampton of Columbia City; Lucinda (Bruce) Rex of Columbia City; Barbara Miller of Columbia City; Lloyd (Judy) Crampton of Grand Marie, MI; and John Crampton of Columbia City; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy J. Crampton; parents, infant brother, Keith Crampton, sons, David and Robert Crampton and daughter, Helen Spencer.

Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 22 with Pastor Curtiss Johnson officiating with burial in Sarasota, FL at a later date.

Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Crampton to the donor's choice of charity. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
