Dr. Stanley G. Long, 83, Westmont, Pa., died Dec. 30, 2014 at Laurel Wood Care Center. He was born Aug. 8, 1931, in Mooresville, the son of the late George E. and Mabel (Moyer) Long.

Dr. Long obtained his BA, in economics, from Wabash College, his MA from Northwestern University and his PhD from Iowa University. He served a Research Fellowship at Cambridge University in England. He then taught at Yale University, Iowa State, Knox College and Lawrence University before moving to Johnstown in 1972 and was a professor at the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown.

Stanley was a railroad enthusiast, often teaching of the economics of transportation. He was an environmentalist, and was affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Church.

He is survived by his wife, the former Alberta Simpson; son, D. Adam Long; daughter, Celia Siegel, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; and granddaughters, Annabelle and Josie, who shared the same birthday with her "Pop Pop."

An infant brother, Robert Wayne and sister, Martha Long preceded him in death.

The funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Friday, at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, Inc. in Johnstown, Pa. Interment will be at a later date at Eberhard Cemetery with Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City in charge of local arrangements.
