Notes:

Waneta Fae Cousins (known to many as Wanie) of Boulder, Colorado passed away due to heart complications on February 12, 2021 with her three children by her side.

Waneta was born to Ralph and Ada Jackson on January 18, 1932 in Whitley County, Indiana. She was raised on a farm along with seven siblings (Estel, Harry, Bernice, Ken, Argle, Hulleta and Tom) where her chores included milking the cows, collecting eggs and working in the fields. She attended Larwill High School in Larwill, Indiana then went to Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana where she majored in Elementary Education. She went on to complete a Master’s in Elementary Education from Ball State University in 1965.

While at Anderson she met the love of her life, Jack Cousins in 1952. They were married in 1953 and remained each other’s best friend until his passing in 2009. They moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1967.

Waneta began her teaching career in 1953 in Alexandria, Indiana and taught lower elementary children until she retired in 1987. In Boulder she taught at Mapleton, Burke, and Aurora 7 schools. She truly touched the future of so many through her teaching.

Waneta’s greatest joy was her family with whom she enjoyed many outdoor activities. Almost all family vacations involved fishing. Some of her favorite trips were horseback riding into the Grand Tetons and Rawah Wilderness area and fishing in Canada and Alaska as well as many other states. She enjoyed skiing and was very easy to find on the mountain because of the bright orange ski hat she loved and was proud to tell you that it was from France! The family used to say she got the most out of any slope because she always turned back up hill so as not to go too fast. She and Jack went to Costa Rica with Habitat for Humanity to build homes, where she learned to say “mas concreto por favor”! They also helped in the building of the Colorado Trail. She loved going on rides on her horse, Willow. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to play the piano (especially the old hymns).

Waneta attended Calvary Bible Church in Boulder where she was involved in various women’s bible studies. She loved going to the church once a week to fold the bulletins with a group of ladies, “the folders”. She loved the Lord and strived to walk with Him since the days of her youth.

Waneta is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack, both parents, her grandson, Matthew and five of her siblings. She is survived by her three children, Mike (Betsy), Mark (Jane), and Laura Webb (Tom), her seven grandchildren, Jake and Emily Cousins, Sarah and John Cousins, Megan Koepsell, Amy Borger, Todd Webb, and four great grandchildren, Riley, Josie and Lucy Borger and Will Koepsell.

Her family will miss her dearly but rejoice in the fact that she is now living at peace with God and reunited with Jack.

There will be a memorial service for immediate family in March. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations may be made to: Denver Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 5206, Denver, Colorado 80217 or Calvary Bible Church (Bushes for landscaping), 3245 Kalmia Avenue, Boulder, Colorado 80301.
