Richard Kenneth Kyler, 70, of Columbia City, died at 7:45 a.m. Dec. 12, 2004 at his residence.

Born March 28, 1934 in Whitley County, a son of Kendall and Mary Jane (Haverstick) Kyler, he graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1952.

On Jan. 30, 1953, he married Charlotte Ann Zumbrun at the First Church of God in Columbia City. He lived for brief periods in Denver, Colo., Mt. Clemons, Mich., Victoria Island, Canada, but the majority of his life was spent in Whitley County.

He served with the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He retired from ITT in Fort Wayne as a senior program administrator, where he worked from 1958 to 1996. He was a member of Columbia City Masonic Lodge and was a former member of the Scottish Rite in Fort Wayne, Larwill Lions Club and was a former leader of the Boy Scouts. He also taught radio classes at ITT College in Fort Wayne. He was an avid fisherman, camper, three-wheeler and deeply loved his family.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte of Columbia City; three children, Vickie S. (Darrell) Resler of Churubusco, Steven M. (Laura) Kyler of Columbia City and Eric S. (Jessica Hively) Kyler of Columbia City; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Phyllis J. Blanchard.

Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City. Masonic Twilight services are at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The funeral service is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with pastor Gene Rohrer of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church officiating. Burial is at South Whitley Cemetery.

Memorial bequests may be given in Mr. Kyler's memory to either the Oak Grove United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
