He was born to Arthur and Luella (Kislia) Rondeau on June 29, 1933 in Rockford, Illinois.

After graduating in 1952 from Columbia City High School, Columbia City, Indiana, Richard served in the US Army and graduated in 1958 from Manchester College, North Manchester, IN. He also studied at Ball State University, UW-Whitewater, and Northern Illinois University.

He married Una Mae Kilgore on August 17, 1957 in Columbia City.

In 1958, he began his teaching career at Johnsville-New Lebanon School District in Ohio. He also taught and coached at West Ward School in Columbia City and Northfield High School, Wabash, IN. He continued his teaching and coaching career in Janesville at Franklin Junior High in 1965 and transferred to Marshall Junior High in 1980.

He retired from the Janesville Public School District in 1990; however, he continued to be a "teacher forever", especially to his grandchildren. During his retirement, Richard enjoyed watching high school, college and professional sports, small engine repair, wood working, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Una; 3 children, Diana (Dan) Hanson of Eagle, Kyle (Machelle) Rondeau of Hephzibah, GA and Dorothy Rondeau of Janesville; 6 grandchildren: Kevin and Andrea Hanson, Eagle; Patrick and Christine, Hephzibah, GA; and Gregory and Amanda Cook, Edgerton; a sister, Dolores Metzger of Noblesville, IN; a brother, Donald of Fort Wayne, IN; an aunt, Dorothy Gunn of Janesville, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday April 12, 2006, at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Jerry Amstutz officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may visit on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME, and again at the church on Wednesday at 10:00 am until the commencement of the service.

Dick's family would like to thank Hospice Care, Inc. staff, especially Cindy, Diane, Tina, Lenore, and Sally; Dr. Kae Walker and Sherry Hill, CNP, of VA Hospital-Madison; and "Little" Neal Schneider (one of Dick's small engine "students" ).
