CECIL E. KEELE, 71, a resident of South Whitley, died at 6:45 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at his home. He had been in failing health.

He was born on June 13, 1934 in Noble County, Indiana a son of Leroy and Helen Katherine (Fry) Keele. He graduated from Columbia City High School.

On June 11, 1953 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged June 10, 1956.

On February 20, 1960 he was united in marriage to Mary Lou McNabb. They made their first home in Columbia City. In 1978 they moved to the South Whitley area, residing at their present home in South Whitley since 1987.

He was employed at M.C. Wheeler & Sons for several years, Whitley County REMC for 25 years and retired in 1999 from the Indiana State Highway Department with 10 years of service.

He attended Collamer Christian Church and was a member of Collamer First Church of God, V.F.W. Post #5582 where he served as past commander, American Legion Post #98 and was a former member of Chain-o-Lakes Barbershop Chorus and was a former Boy Scout leader.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Mary Lou; children and grandchildren, Aaron Thomas (Alina) Keele of Port Orchard, WA, Jessica Erin Keele of South Whitley and Michael Thomas Almack of Wolf Lake; four step grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marcel Renee Keele and a brother, Huston Keele.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 8, 2006 at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley with Pastors David Wagner and Nathan Vandergriff officiating. The visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard providing vigil.

The burial will be in Jefferson Chapel Cemetery with American Legion Post #98 presenting military honors.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis or Hospice Home.
