Notes:

The Daily Independent, Ridgecrest, CA, June 30, 2009:

Mrs. Rowena Magline Weeks passed away June 25, 2009 in Lancaster, Calif., from complications from cancer. She was 74.

Mrs. Weeks was born in Columbia City, Ind. on June 22, 1935.

She was a 25-year resident of Ridgecrest, and prior to that had lived in Trona for 25 years. She worked as a secretary for Kerr McGee/NACC/IMC in Trona until her retirement.

With expertise and dedication, she fulfilled her diverse interests, talents and skills in an exemplary manner.

Her capacity for creativity coupled with her generosity, provided a bounty of loving gifts to those she loved and even to those she had never met before, with the use of her skilled hands through quilting, scrapbooking, money roses, candy poems, gardening, writing, cooking and baking (and was currently working on a family recipe book), cake decorating, oil painting and other art work, sewing, card making, crafts, and typing.

Her devotion to full-time genealogy and family history led her to many new friends located throughout the United States and a room dedicated to her research, discoveries, photos, memory books, keepsakes and her work.

Whenever service to the community or to other crossed her path, she would step forward willingly and with devotion adding loving details of her own to make the event or experience better than she found it, offering her greatest gift of time so others might feel valued.

She collected and gathered in heirlooms, antiques, sabin dishes, dolls, covered bridges, Christmas, friends and family. To relax she loved to read and went shopping for children's items that she never had growing up, in order to give to other children who had very little.

Her attributes and virtues she leaves behind are numerous and include strength, an incredible work ethic, management, lifting another with her humor and delightful outlook, perseverance, generosity, passion for life, resilience, service, thoughtfulness, organization, resourcefulness, and vision.

She was a one-of-a-kind and we celebrate a woman whose focused purposes were the hallmarks of her life, leaving a legacy anchoring her family and friends in all that is worthwhile. What a lovely gift she was to the soul.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Phillip H. Weeks of Ridgecrest, daughter Lori Fairbank of Utah, son Paul Weeks of Ridgecrest, grandson Kirt Fairbank of Utah, granddaughter Rhianna Celestine of Ridgecrest, grandson Paul Weeks of Texas, great-grandsons Killian and Beck Fairbank of Utah, great-grandson Julian Smith of Ridgecrest, great-granddaughters Lilianna Weeks of Texas and Autumn Stull of Ridgecrest, and great-grandson Phillip Weeks of Texas. She is also survived by brother Mike Loe of Arizona, brother Jim Loe of Florida, Sister Susan Loe of Indiana, and sister Martha Harper of Indiana, three widowed sisters-in-law Norma Loe of Utah, Patty Loe of Indiana, and Mary Loe of Florida and numerous caring nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, July 6, 2009 at 10 a.m. at H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel in Ridgecrest. Pastor Larry Higdon will officiate. Burial will take place at Desert Memorial Park in Ridgecrest.

Arrangements provided by Holland and Lyons Mortuary, 371-1376. Media information provided by the family.
