CHARITY HANCOCK, 67, a resident of Columbia City, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born August 9, 1935 in Whitley County, the daughter of Alphonse Daniel and Guinevere G. DePew Meyer.

She is a 1953 graduate of Columbia City High School and also completed classes at I.P.F.W. In 1953, she was selected "Miss Columbia City" and the same year elected "Miss Chain of Lakes" at the Mermaid Festival in North Webster.

She was employed for many years as a dental assistant to Dr. Lowell Grant, later Dr. John Meier and recently retired as a child care giver at the First Class Child Care Center.

"A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother," she is survived by a daughter, Lynn Marie (Roger) Drudge of Columbia City; two sons, Nicholas John (Tamera) Hancock, Huntington, Lowell Arthur Hancock, Denver, Colo., eight grandchildren, Michelle Drudge, Stephanie Harris Branning, Riley Harris, Nicole, Danielle, Brittany, Taylor and Parker Hancock; three great-grandchildren, Ryan and Fisher Branning and Naomi Harris; two sisters, Carol (Mike) Lyons, Fairfax, Va., Lana Meyer, Columbia City and a brother, Terry (Lynn) Meyer in Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Julia Anne.

The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church with Father Dale Bauman, the officiant. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Smith & Sons Funeral Home and one hour before the mass at the church on Saturday.
