Notes:

Donald E. Rondeau, 78, a resident of Fort Wayne died at 1:19 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Grey Stone Health and Rehabilitation, Fort Wayne where he had been a resident since January.

He was born March 29, 1935 in Yale, Michigan a son of the late Arthur and Louella (Kaislia) Rondeau. As a young child the family moved to Columbia City where he attended West Ward Grade School and graduated from Columbia City High School in 1953. He was the athletic Honor Blanket recipient in 1953.

He entered the United States Marine Corps June 11,1953. He rose to the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged June 1, 1956. He continued his education at DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago.

On May 15, 1965, he was united in marriage to Jill Lahmon. They made their home in Fort Wayne. Jill died January 17, 1971.

He started his work career with Magnavox in Fort Wayne for 15 years, then GTE, Fort Wayne. He joined Motorola, Phoenix, AZ as a computer programmer where he worked for 14 years. After his retirement, he returned to Fort Wayne in 1996.

Don was an accomplished high school athlete participating in football, basketball and track. After his return to the area, he became a loyal supporter of Columbia City High School athletics. He videoed and photograph many of the various sports and lent his expertise as an assistant coach. He was a member of the Leatherneck Coffee Club, Columbia City.

Surviving include two daughters, Jeanne (Kenneth) Musgrove, Spencerville and Juliana Fischer; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the service Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Greenhill Cemetery.

Memorial may be made to the Marines Toys for Tots.
