Muncie, Indiana - Martha (Chapman) Lane, 79, passed away at 2:00 a.m. on January 27, 2015.

She was born in Columbia City, Indiana on November 27, 1935, the daughter of Floyd and Gladys Chapman.

Martha is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Conrad Lane; a daughter, Mary White (husband, Dan) of Granite Bay, California; a son, Tom Lane (wife, Kara) of Park City, Utah; two grandsons, Kyle and Daniel White of California; three granddaughters, Avery, Lola and Brynna of Park City, Utah; a sister, Arline Chapman Jones of Ft. Wayne.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Donald and Phil Chapman.

Martha was considered an outstanding student at Columbia City High School and was recognized for her excellent academic performance. She graduated from high school in 1954 and then enrolled in Ball State Teachers College. She graduated from there in 1958.

On August 24, 1958 she married Conrad Lane, a native of Madison County. The couple had two children, Mary Ann born in 1959 and Tom born in 1966.

Martha began her professional career teaching elementary school children at Edgewood Elementary in Elwood, then at Alexandria Elementary School. After a move to Muncie she taught at Stevenson School and Northview Elementary. She also taught many Sunday school classes at College Avenue United Methodist Church. The last twenty years of her professional life were spent supervising teachers for Ball State University and teaching elementary grades at Burris Laboratory School. She touched the lives of many children and co-workers who will always remember her dedication and expertise with fondness and respect.

Plans for a memorial service are currently underway and will be announced at a future date. The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Those who wish to honor Martha's memory may do so by sending a memorial contribution to College Avenue United Methodist Church, 1968 West Main Street, Muncie, Indiana 47303.
