RUTH L. GEYER GRIFFIN, 68, a former resident of Columbia City, died at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010 in the Life Path Hospice, Sun City, Florida.

She was born on November 6, 1941 in Chicago, a daughter of Paul M. and Ruth C. (Hodson) McClain. Her formative years were spent in Jefferson Township and Columbia City. She graduated from the Columbia City Joint High School in 1959.

On January 24, 1970, she was married to William F. Geyer and they made their home in Columbia City until Mr. Geyer's retirement from the Fort Wayne City Schools and they moved to Sebring, Florida in 1976. Mr. Geyer died on January 13, 1991.

She was later married to Henry G. "Hank" Griffin and they always made their home in Wauchula, Florida. Mr. Griffin preceded her in death.

While a resident of Columbia City, she was employed as a waitress at the Joe Dues Restaurant for many years and at The Clock Restaurant in Avon Park after moving to Florida.

She was an active member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Wauchula and treasurer of the Sunshine Class.

The surviving relatives include her mother, Ruth McClain of Columbia City; a brother, Alan (Elizabeth) McClain, Scottsdale, Arizona; a sister, Mary (Allen) Bower, Columbia City; a step-son, James (Laura) Griffin, Wauchula and a special nephew Marvin Henry Driskell of Wauchula.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010 in the New Hope Baptist Church, 1999 State Rd. 64 East, Wauchula, Florida 33873. The family will greet friends one hour before the service.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church.
