Harold A. Krider, 63, of Whitley County, died at 4:05 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at his home. He had been in failing health.

He was born March 7, 1947 in Wolf Lake, Indiana a son of George W. and Mildred M. (Hill) Krider. His formative years were spent in Thorncreek Township. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1965.

On May 21, 1966 he was united in marriage to Jo Ellen Vogely. They made their home in Columbia City and later on a farm in Columbia Township before moving to Washington Township, residing at their present home since July 2007.

He was employed at Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne for over 36 years, retiring in 2002. He had been working part time at More Farm Store for the past few years.

His memberships included Grace Lutheran Church, Due Guard Lodge #278 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine, Whitley County Shrine Club, Mizpah Antique Power Club and R.O.J. Court Order #27.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Jo; three children, Hilary L. (Bryan) Nicodemus of South Whitley, Ryan A. Krider of South Whitley and Marta J. (Mike) Pearce of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Colin & Alyson Nicodemus, Jordan, Whitley, Sydney & Devin Krider, and Caitlyn, Colton, Tucker & Ty Pearce; two brothers and a sister, Robert Krider, Richard Krider and Joan Simon, all of Columbia City.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ronald, Raymond, Charles Milton and Lawrence; and a sister, Virginia Snodgrass.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, 204 North Main Street, Columbia City with visitation after 9:30 a.m. The burial will be in Eberhard Cemetery. The visitation will also be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.

A Masonic Service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials may be made to Whitley County 4-H Inc. or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
