Dick L. Clifford Jr., 49, a resident of Columbia City, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. He had been in failing health for the past 15 years.

He was born March 5, 1952 in Columbia City a son of Dick L. and Evelyn Ruth (Gilbert) Clifford Sr. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1971.

On November 24, 1973 he was united in marriage to Rebecca M. Bohnstedt. They have always made their home in Columbia City, moving to their present home 12 years ago.

He was employed at S & L Truck Stop, Station House, Junction, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Bob Evans in Warsaw, a carrier for The Post & Mail and was last employed at BRC Rubber in Churubusco.

A member of the Community of Hope Grace Brethren Church, he served as a former treasurer for the church. He was Whitley County’s first heart recipient on October 16, 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Becky; a daughter, Karianna Clifford, at home; a brother, Steven W. Clifford of Churubusco; three step-brothers, Ralph Craig of Arizona, Jerry Craig of Fort Wayne and Jack Craig of Columbia City; and his mother-in-law, Alice Bohnstedt of Columbia City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Grace Clifford; and a brother, Dennis Clifford.

The funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Pastor Dan Gregory of Community of Hope Grace Brethren Church officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial is at Eberhard Cemetery.
