Brice L. Reimer, 86, of rural Churubusco [Indiana], died peacefully in the company of family at his home at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Born on May 16, 1937, in Allen County, Indiana, he was a twin son of Paul C. and Sarah A. (Steele) Reimer.

He began school at Arcola, then moved to Whitley County, where he attended Columbia Twp. School finishing grade school at Washington Center. He completed his schooling at Columbia City High School.

On November 13, 1955, he married Shirley L. Zink. They made their home in Thorncreek Twp. for 58 years before moving to Blue Lake to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law.

Brice began his work career at the Neuhauser Hatchery, then JI Case in Churubusco. He then joined General Electric in Fort Wayne, completing his work career with 23 years of service.

Always willing to serve others, he was a 40-year member of the Thorncreek Volunteer Fire Department with 12 years as the Department's Chaplin and also served as captain. When he moved out of the Township, he was made an honorary firefighter of the department. In addition to his regular work at GE, he also served on their fire department for 20 years and was a regular blood donor to the American Red Cross.

A man of faith, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia City for 68 years, where he was the head usher, a member of the board, and a trustee. More recently, he was a member of the Tri-Lakes Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

An avid fisherman, he enjoyed getting out on the area lakes whenever possible.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Shirley; sons, Duane (Colleen) Reimer of Columbia City and Brian (Susan) Reimer of Senoia, GA; a daughter Diane (William) Johnson of Churubusco; grandchildren, Justin (Amy) Reimer, Kendra (Nathan) Shelton, Shelby (Alex) Peta, Derek (Ellyn) Johnson, and Amber (Craig Trammel) Johnson; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Pat Hartman of Columbia City and Judy Thompson of South Whitley.

Additionally, he was preceded in death by his twin brother Price; brothers Franklin, Paul Junior, William, Richard, Frederick, Louis, Delmar, and an infant brother Larry; and a sister Betty Green.

The funeral service is at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at the St. Matthews Cemetery. Visitation is from 1:00 p.m. until the service Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials in Brice's honor are to the Thorncreek Volunteer Fire Department.
