Post & Mail March 6, 2013:

A 2010 Columbia City High School graduate was killed in a snowmobile accident early Wednesday morning. Justin Hinen, 21, of Columbia City, was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 1:30 a.m. after he allegedly drove his snowmobile into a fence.

Indiana conservation officer Darren Reed said Hinen left the roadway, crashing into a wire fence that enclosed a livestock pasture. Hinen was traveling on County Road 200 North between County Roads 150 West and 250 West, when he intentionally left the road to head across a field.

"He must not have been familiar with the area," Reed said.

Though an autopsy is scheduled for today, authorities say blunt force trauma to the neck is believed to be the cause of death.

Conservation officers say that after traveling a few hundred yards, Hinen's snowmobile struck a multi-stranded wire fence enclosing a livestock pasture.

The driver of the another snowmobile saw the crash and immediately called 911.

Hinen was attending school at Baker College of Owosso in Michigan.
