Parents on birth certificate were listed as Mildred Elizabeth Gay & Leon Walton, who may not have been not married. In 1930 census, Mildred was a housekeeper for Ernest Marvel in Leesburg, Indiana & son Kenneth Gay (age 2, born c1928) was also in the household. On May 27, 1931 she married Charles Wilbur Jennings, who died in 1978. On November 10, 1951 she married Kenneth Burdell Benner.

Kenneth married June 19, 1948 to Elizabeth Saunders Maloney. Last lived in Waterford, Connecticut.

Kenneth was living in Waterford, Connecticut, when he died at age 61 in New London, Connecticut. His occupation listed as chemical engineer (Bechtel); previously had been a truck driver & chauffeur.

His widow Elizabeth S. Gay passed away December 9, 2014. She was survived by her six children, David J. of Annandale, Va., Leon M. of N. Stonington and Clifford C. Gay of Plainfield, Candice R. Miesen of Quaker Hill, Diana A. Smith of Glouster, Mass. and Janet A. Alloway of Waterford; as well as eight grandchildren. Predeceased by daughter Phyllis Elizabeth Gay on June 17, 1952.">
