of Columbia City, Ind. passed away at 5:54 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014 at his residence. James was born on July 18, 1956 in Fort Wayne and was the son of Paul and Norma (Comer) Herron.

James was a lifetime Whitley County resident and graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1974. He also attended Kaplan University and received his Paralegal Certificate.

James spent most of his working career as a machinist at United Technologies in Columbia City, Dana Corporation in Syracuse and Eaton-Clutch in Auburn.

On August 9, 1986, he married Kathaleen Clem.

He was also a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Union Township Fire Department and U.A.W. Local #164 in Auburn. His hobbies included riding his Harley, gardening and being a history buff.

James is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Kathaleen of Columbia City; mother, Norma U. Herron of Columbia City; brother, David (Deb) Herron of Columbia City; sister, Sarah "Sally" (Stan) Smith of Chugiak, AK; four grandchildren, Jasmine, Jade, Autumn and Matthew; special sister-in-law, Lourine Pequignot; and son-in-law, Shawn Kleeberg of Churubusco. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Paul Herron in 2012; and sisters, Mary Herron and Lydia Fisher.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 6, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Columbia City.

Memorial gifts may be given in Mr. Herron's memory to American Cancer Society or to the donor's choice.
