He worked for Smith Bros. Standard and North American Van Lines before enlisting in the United States Army, serving during the Gulf War. He was honorably discharged.

He also worked for City of Fort Wayne, Hot Crews, Hoffmann Inc. in Muscatine, Iowa, Smith Bros. Towing and Whitley County Work Release.

On June 3, 2015 he married Brenda J. Ferrell Myers.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Brenda; a daughter, Aubree C. (Logan) Landon of Fort Wayne; two step sons, Timothy (Emily) Myers of Fort Wayne and Todd (Jessica Conley) Myers of Columbia City; a grandson, Rowan Landon; five step grandchildren; his parents, Peanut & Sue Smith of Columbia City; a brother, Kent (Pamela) Smith of Columbia City; a sister, Kristi (A.J.) Smith of Peru; and his mother-in-law, Jean Ferrell of Columbia City.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with military honors. The visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to American Cancer Society or Parkview Home Health & Hospice.
