Edgar J. Strouse , Sr. & his brother Abraham K. Strouse joined M. Strouse Sons, a menswear store, started by their grandfather, Moses Strouse in 1887. The store name was changed to Strouses & in 1974 Edgar's son Edgar J. "Bud" Strouse, Jr. became sole proprietor.

Children: Joan Strouse Shropshire (1924-2010), Edgar "Bud" Strouse, Jr (1927-2009) and Carolyn Strouse (1935-1937).

Wife Mary died August 28, 1988. Both buried Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City, Indiana.
