Robert L. Schinbeckler, age 92, died at 10:05 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Whitley County, IN on September 27, 1915, he was the son of Elmer and Lucile (Cole) Schinbeckler.

He graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1934 where he played basketball and football. He resided in Whitley County, IN until 1941 when he moved to Allen County, IN. His first marriage was to Evelyn Gipe Tolliver, she survives. On June 2, 1979, he married Dorothy M. Johnson in Fort Wayne, IN. He retired in 1978 from General Electric in Fort Wayne, IN where he was employed for 36 years.

He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Dewald Street, Fort Wayne, IN. An avid basketball and football fan, he was a member of YMCA-basketball, G.E. Atheltic Club and G.E. Quarter Century Club also a veteran of Merchants Team Basketball and the Golden Gloves boxing team, Columbia City.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Schinbeckler of Fort Wayne, IN; 1 daughter, Sydney (Stephen) Campbell of Columbia City, IN; 1 son, David (Mary) Schinbeckler of Appleton, WI; 2 step-daughters, Patricia (Richard) Jennings of New Haven, IN and Rebecca (Arthur) Lee of Fort Wayne, IN; 2 step-sons, Steven (Sandy) Johnson and Keith (Karen) Johnson both of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Fred and Marshall Schinbeckler and 1 sister, Laura B. Hines.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 3-6 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral service is Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. with calling 1 hour prior to service at the funeral home with Pastor Peggy A. Edge of North Christian Church officiating. Private family committal service will be at Covington Memeorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorial bequests may be given in Mr. Schinbeckler's memory to Missionary Funds to Africa.
