July 29, 1920 - Jan. 24, 2006

Born in Columbia City on July 29, 1920, she a daughter of Edward and Eloise Meyers.

She attended art school for two years at the University of Miami-Ohio, before moving to Chicago where she attended the American Academy of Art for one year.

She worked for several years in Chicago and met her husband Stan there. They were married Nov. 26, 1948, and soon after moved to Madison where they raised three daughters.

The couple moved their family overseas from 1963 to 1965, while Stan worked for US. A.I.D. A few years after returning to Madison, she pursued her degree in art education and graduated in 1972 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She taught art in the Belleville School District until her retirement in January 1982.

She was a member of the Madison Art Guild and the Madison Watercolor Society. For many years she was a docent at the Chazem Museum of Art (Elvejham Art Museum).

In addition to being an accomplished water-color artist, her passions included her love for gardening, music, and nature; she enjoyed playing golf and bridge. But above all, she loved her family and enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow.

Survivors include three daughters, Syrie (Tom) Schmitz of Middleton, Wis.; Kris Nestingen-Palm, (Frank Palm) of Waukesha, Wis. and Julie Nestingen (Donna Stoneham) of Point Richmond, Calif.; eight grandchildren, a sister, Sally (Gail) Martin, of Columbia City and a brother, Edward (Susan) Meyers of Columbia City. She is also survived by many dear in-laws, nieces, nephews and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley R., a brother, Richard Meyers and her parents.

The funeral service is at 2 p.m. today at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 326 S. Segoe Road, Madison, with the Rev. Lin Grace Rohr presiding, followed immediately by a reception at the church.

Immediately following the church reception, her daughters invite family and friends to join them in a celebration of Mrs. Nestingen's life from 4 to 8 p.m. at the home of Syrie and Tom Schmitz in Middleton.

The family would like to thank the many loving family and friends who supported Marj during her courageous battle with cancer. They would especially like to acknowledge and thank Pat Schmitz and Debra Noell of HospiceCare, Inc.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to HospiceCare, Inc. or to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
