Richard E. “Dick” Evans, 91, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Monday evening, April 5, 2021, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

He was born on January 29, 1930, at his home in Whitley County, Indiana to the late Fred L. Evans and the late Grace E. (Shafer) Evans. He was united in marriage to Janet L. Seitz on January 25, 1953, at First Methodist Church in Decatur.

Dick was a member of First United Methodist Church in Decatur for over 61 years. He served as a former Sunday School Teacher, Trustee, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the church. In addition, he was a former member of the Decatur Lions Club and Decatur Optimist Club.

He retired after 26 years of service from General Electric in Decatur.

Dick loved working and “making a buck.” He also enjoyed spending countless hours outside doing yard work.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janet L. Evans of Decatur, Indiana; son, Perry D. (Kelly) Evans of Middlepoint, Ohio; son, Rex L. (Nancy) Evans of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Lisa A. Steffen of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Melba Stidham of Larwill, Indiana; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren with two on the way in June.

Dick is preceded in death by three brothers, Jackson D. Evans, Gail F. Evans, and Herbert T. Evans; and two sisters, Doris L. Trumball, and May D. Blue.

A funeral service for Dick will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2021, at First United Methodist Church in Decatur with Pastor Harold Klinker and Pastor Karen Garner officiating. Burial will follow at Decatur Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Preferred memorials can be given to First United Methodist Church.
