Barbara Ellen Lickey, 76
May 13, 1930 - July 27, 2006

Barbara Ellen Lickey, 76, of Columbia City, died at 7:20 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, after a brief illness.

Born on May 13, 1930, in Whitley County, a daughter of Walter W. and Sylvia Elizabeth (Staples) Wolfe-Hursey, she lived her entire lifetime in the Whitley County area. She graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1949.

She married Edward Leroy Lickey on May 20, 1950, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Columbia City.

She worked at Columbia City High School's cafeteria for 21 years as a cook from 1966 to 1987, seven years at Whitley County Memorial Hospital in the dietary department and also worked at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home from 1984 to 1993 as a geriatric nurse's aide, retiring in 1993.

Survivors include three sons, Brian Edward (Krista) Lickey, rural Columbia City; Mark Alan Lickey of Columbia City, and Doug Eugene (Kate) Lickey of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law, Norma Lickey of Columbia City; two sisters, Mary Targgart of Columbia City and Phyllis Taylor of Wabash; a brother, Richard (Phyllis) Wolfe of Columbia City; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward; a son, Kevin Lickey (12-30-1996), brothers, Walter and Donald Wolfe and a sister, Genevieve Keirn.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home in Columbia City. The funeral service is at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Curtiss Johnson, retired pastor of Community Bible Church, officiating. Burial is at Eberhard Cemetery, Columbia City.

Memorial bequests may be given in Mrs. Lickey's memory to either the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
