Notes:

Jane A. Goble, 70, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away at 3:48 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Marvin Goble; daughters, Heidi (Brian) Krider of Columbia City, Ingrid (Mike) McClain of Larwill, Gretchen (Stan) Chalvire of North Easton, Massachusetts and Brigitte (Zach) Henson of Wichita, Kansas; sons, Adam (Kimberly) Goble of Churubusco, Brent Goble of Ft. Wayne and Andrew Goble of Columbia City; sisters, Susan (Tom) Edsall of Warsaw and Patricia (Larry) Alles of Columbia City; brothers, Stanley (Susie) Schmitt of Columbia City and Steven (Deb) Schmitt of Columbia City; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Jane A. Goble was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a caring professional. She was the glue that held her family together and the strength that her community trusted. Selfless and giving, Jane made a career out of caring for others. Hardworking and vigorous, she lived out her faith in tangible ways.

Jane was born in Columbia City, Indiana when WWII dominated the globe. While men sacrificed abroad, women worked valiantly at home to assist the war effort and stabilize the country. They became competent in industry and confident in their ability to contribute to the American workforce, forever shifting the social landscape. With these changes came one more for Harold and Mona I. (Ward) Schmitt, who welcomed their daughter Jane into their lives on November 20, 1944.

Growing up on the Harold and Mona Schmitt Farm just north of Columbia City, Jane was sure to become involved in the day-to-day operations of a business that operated night and day. She worked hard doing chores that were expected of her, all the while gaining experience in responsibility and determination.

Jane graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1963 and went on to Parkview School of Nursing in Fort Wayne. She received her RN degree in 1966 and moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia for her first nursing job. However, when her father passed away unexpectedly, Jane moved back to Indiana in 1968 to be closer to her mother. She took a position at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne and soon met the man who would become her husband.

Jane's uncle introduced her to his cousin Marvin Goble, whom she had actually known in high school. They started spending time with each other, and over the next five years, their relationship grew into love and commitment. The two were married at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church on July 14, 1973. With the addition of babies, Jane left nursing in 1979 to take care of her ever growing family of seven children.

Jane was perfectly matched for her role as wife and mother. She was very supportive of her children and, truth be told, she kept her husband on track. Being a fastidious housekeeper and a good cook, she made sure the home was comfortable and everyone was well fed. All this she did for her family in addition to taking on a new care-giving job.

In 1980, Jane started babysitting, and it soon became her passion. Her love and care was evident to many residents in South Whitley as Jane impacted the lives of hundreds of children in her 25-year career. She said good-bye to her babysitting role in 2005 when she and Marv moved up to Shriner Lake. By then she was a grandmother, doting on her beloved grandchildren.

Jane had a big heart for all people and she showed it in great and small ways. She never forgot family birthdays and always sent a card. When she heard of friends or family struggling with an issue or with their health, she reached out with support by praying for them and sending letters of encouragement. It was not uncommon for someone to keep receiving a letter from her every 14th day. That's how concerned and conscientious Jane was. Not surprisingly, she was once presented the Heart of Gold Award from the Whitley County Community Foundation.

The way Jane lived her life came from the faith she professed. As a member of St. Paul of the Cross Church, she was a devoted Catholic who prayed the Rosary daily, along with other prayers. She supported charitable causes, especially Right to Life, because nothing was ever about her but always about others.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 2 to 6 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive with a Rosary service at 1:30 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2015 at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 315 S Line St, Columbia City. Father Gary Sigler will officiate. The burial will follow at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in her honor to Right to Life of North Central Indiana or St. Paul of the Cross Food Pantry. To read Jane's life story or send the family condolences, visit www.demoneygrimes.com.
