Paul Richard Lopshire, 72, of rural South Whitley, died Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Boyne Falls, Michigan where he and his wife had gone to mushroom hunt.

He was born February 28, 1946 in Fort Wayne, Indiana a son of the late Ralph E. and Arneda G. (Haney) Lopshire. His formative years were spent in the Coesse area. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1964.

On June 15, 1968 he was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Gangwer. They have always made their home in rural South Whitley.

For over 40 years, he worked for Dana, Spicer Axle Division, Fort Wayne retiring in 2005 from their quality department. He was passionate about farming and farmed throughout his work career.

He was a member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church of Lake Township, Fort Wayne, Masonic Lodge No.189, Columbia City, the Mizpah Shrine, the Power Club, and the Giant Fez.

In his retirement years, he was a member of the Shrine transportation team that drove children to the Shiner’s hospitals. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren and traveling with his wife. As a member of the Power Club, he would participate in area parades with his 1937 brass radiator, Allis Chalmers tractor.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy; two sons, Matthew A. (Sheli) Lopshire, Columbia City and Gregory P. Lopshire, Chicago; two grandsons, Isaac and Samuel Lopshire; a sister, Martha (Roger) Patton, Sun Lakes, AZ; two brothers, Gary (Carolyn) Lopshire, Tri-Lakes and David (Karen) Lopshire, Covington, GA and a sister-in-law, Vicky Lopshire, Oak Park, IL.

Additionally, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Lopshire.

The funeral service is 10:00 a.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
