Per Whitley County Historical Society's March 2023 The Bulletin:
Enlisted in the US Army January 21, 1942. His rank was Technician 4 Corporal. He participated in the invasion of Luzon and the Philippines. Received American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze stars; Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star; Good Conduct medal and Victory Medal.

E. Orville Goodrich, 55, of 1636 Crestwood [South Bend, Indiana], was dead on arrival at 4:36 p.m. Tuesday after suffering a heart attack while driving on Edison after shoveling snow at his home.

Goodrich was a Freeman-Spicer Co. employee. Born May 5, 1920 in Whitley County, Ind., he had lived here five years, moving from Lafayette.

On March 29, 1943, in Columbia City, he married Bonnie A. DeLaugher, who survives. Also surviving are a son, David W. of South Bend; three daughters, Mrs. Cynthia Reynolds of Tempe, Ariz., Mrs. Martha Short of McAllen, Tex., and Betty, at home; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Russell Andris of Illinois and Mrs. Richard Slater of Wisconsin; and four brothers, Fay L. of Mishawaka, Clyde D. of South Bend, Kenneth L. and Gerald E., both of Columbia City.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the DeLaugher Funeral Mortuary, North Manchester. Rev. Max B. Hayden, pastor of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, of which Goodrich was a member, will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hills Cemetery, North Manchester. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter's United Church of Christ memorial fund or the Arthritic Association.
